It's hard not to notice that most movies fish from the same plot hole. Doctors are always trying to revolutionize medicine with the latest fad science. People always run to the mall in a crisis. Spiders are usually big. Damn big.

What took me a while to realize is that we remember movies based on these recurring plot threads. On the message board that I haunt, people frequently ask for help identifying movies. Their recollections usually go something like "There was this guy in a clown suit, and a woman used a poker against him."

Sometimes, this is not so easy to narrow down. So I decided to do something about that. Something that might justify all those DVDs on my shelf.
